Ahead of this year's sports festival, the GIJ-SRC commission has released a series of facts about the tournament which has been running for some years with its coveted trophy; 'The Aponkye'. 

This year's games will run from Tuesday 27th to Wednesday 28 July; that is tomorrow and Wednesday at the Accra Academy Astro-turf. 

Below are some of the scintillating facts gathered since the inception of the competition.

1. No Level 100 or Diploma 1 team has ever won the competition before.

2. Teams in level 300 have been the most successful teams in the competition.

3. No weekend team has ever won the competition before.

4. For the first time in the competition, there will be a female coach. Benedicta Swatson has been appointed as the assistant coach for the level 300 team.

5. Level 400 2020 batch graduated without making a single appearance in the finals of the competition. 

6. Only the 2018 Level 400 Journalism class has won the competition twice. They won it in Level 300(2017) & retained it in 2018 before leaving the four corners of GIJ.

Wale and Mutala were their leaders on the pitch with Magabush as their head coach.

7. Former GIJ school team striker and captain, Benoni Teye played in four consecutive tournaments without scoring a single goal.
