Justice Agbemehia is the newly appointed Commanding Officer of the GIJ-SRC Cadet (48th Army Engineer Regiment Cadet) |
“The President shall, in the consultation with the General Assembly and the Parent Company of the Armed Forces, appoint a Commanding Officer (CO) of the GIJ SRC cadet force", Article 28 clause 2 states.
The press release stated that the operation of the Commanding Officer begins on 20th, June, 2021. In an exclusive interview with Justice Agbemahia, the newly appointed Commanding Officer of the GIJ cadet force, he expressed his gratitude to the entire SRC body and the students as a whole for his appointment as the Commanding Officer (CO) of the cadet force.
“Cadet in the history of GIJ is formed under the rulership of H.E. Nii Lamptey Ishmael and he needs to be honoured since GIJ will start producing gallant men into the defence of this state" he stated.
He also laid emphasis on his expectations as well as what the institution and the society should expect.
“As the first Cadet Commander of this noble institution, my expectations are tremendously colossal. An example is to form a cadet which would groom young men and women possible for defending and protecting Ghana and the world at large should they be commissioned into the force or any of the security services after school and to be a perfect replica to the rest of the student body in terms of discipline and others.”
Students have also shared diverse views on the the appointment.

"It is a perfect idea and we would help the dream of the SRC through the cadet Commander come to pass” a student shared.
Another student also shares; “I don’t think this is necessary because of the goals of students in GIJ, maybe it would be beneficial to someone but to me no”.
Although, the GIJ-SRC Constitution provides for the formation of a cadet corp (The 48th Army Engineer Cadet Force),past SRC administrations have not made the appointment.
