 The 2020/2021 Audit Committee has officially has effective from today started their work, a circular has disclosed. 

Signed by the chair of the committee, Abdulai Saaka, the circular indicates that the committee is ready to perform its functions as mandated by the GIJ-SRC constitution.

As part of their work, they will be demanding the financial documents of the SRC and halls at the end of every month.

As part of their work, officers appointed under the SRC can be called upon to render accounts of work done in addition to the committee's final report of the SRC accounts at the end of the tenure of the Nii-Lante-led administration.

"In addittion, the committee shall present a report of its work to General Assembly at the last General Assembly Meeting for the 2020/2021 academic year" it said.

"The Committee shall also reserve the right granted it by Clause 6 of Article 23 of the SRC constitution to write to the Defendant General to file motions of sanctions to the Judicial Committee against any SRC or Hall executive who is incriminated by the findings of the audit committee" the staement added.

The committee in the course is also answerable to General Assembly as and when the need arises for accounts on SRC financial transactions to be audited. 

The Issue of Auditing in GIJ

Over the years the SRC has seen a trend of past audit committees failing to produce reports as expected of them. Whiles this has raised a lot of concerns among students, many will look forward to getting results this time around.
