Surprises that have followed appointment of new SRC executives; Hav Bright declines appointment and more

Following the announcement publication of results from the controversial vetting and appointments process that went on a week ago for new officers of various SRC portfolios, there has been some happenings that have come as a shocker if not surprise to students of the institute.

Prior to these happenings was the withdrawal of 8 aspirants from the race even after showing interest initially.

Then came the surprising involvement of an aspirant, Erasmus Mensah, who was a co-signatory of the aspirants who withdrew from the race showing up for the vetting and then withdrawing from the race once again.

After these happenings, vetting went on regardless for some 3 days after which results were released.

Now this is where the drama starts.

Following the release of these results, a lot of students reacted to the news especially of the pronouncement of some aspirants who passed the vetting as new SRC executives led by the appointed president Mr. Havilah Bright popularly known as Hav Bright.

Following this release, one ... purported to be the secretary to the vetting and appointments panel released a communique to the whole students population disagreeing with the said results.

According to him, the reports does not reflect the opinion of the vetting and appointments panel as agreed. The more he points issues to the direction that suggests that the process was being tweaked to satisfy the political hunger of some group of people.

After this came a communique from the appointed president himself! Co-signed by his running mate, Mr. Isaac Opare Junior, the communique also pointed to political machinations amongst other things.

To this, Havilah and his running mate have officially declined the appointment conferred on them by the committee as president and vice.

They went on to throw their support behind the call of the 8 aspirants who withdrew earlier from the race now demanding for an election that will see students of the institute elect their own leaders.

They proposed that just as in other institutions like KNUST and University of Ghana, an interim committee be appointed.

The trajectory has seen a back and forth on the issue of new SRC executives for the GIJ-SRC's 2020-2021 administrative year full of ins and outs and disagreements particularly with the process towards getting a new set of executives.

The conversation is still ongoing but the question is; have the surprises ended?
